Protect your body and navigate in the cold

Whatever the weather throws at you, it takes more than the cold to stop you doing what you love! There are a few handy tips to follow when it comes to protecting your body from the cold during a sailing trip.

Tackling cold weather during sailing trips

Protecting yourself from the cold is essential when you need to stay strong and be at your best on your boat. Doing so involves everything from the clothes you wear to having the right materials for a marine environment, but there are other points to consider too.

The most important thing is to cover up your extremities: first of all put a hat on, as most of our body heat is lost through our head.

You also need to carefully protect any areas where air could get in, such as your throat (wear a polo neck), sleeves (wear gloves) and feet (wear boots).
That way, you will channel heat more effectively to other parts of your body.
